An MRB disposition for discrepant hardware resulting in a Serial Number that is no longer compliant with the released identifying drawing. Therefore, technically constituting a unique Part Number, usually comprised of the original Part Number plus the number of the directing non-conformance. Repair can be associated with limited use. Contrast with rework.
The notion of a repair is important to System Engineering because it means that the MRB process has a mechanism for indicating acceptability of manufactured parts that is independent of the Qualification process (but not independent of the Acceptance process). Parts that are non-compliant with the drawing can also be non-compliant with the Qualification Requirements, even if development is formally complete.
