I Thought I’d Never Get This Done

At long last, I finished (-ish) a reasonable cut at a third example of Topical Parameterization, this one on retention mechanisms for spacecraft deployables.  Being derived from a General Specification, it was particularly complicated.  Several topics were a bit abstract, and required a job of work in order to derive explicit parameters, spawning a couple of subordinate pages on Resistive Load Peaking and Binding.

If the spawned pages seem a bit technical for System Engineering…well, that’s one of my major thesis: System Engineering techniques are more useful when used in a technical context.  They’re less useful when used in a purely syntactical context.

I think…no, wait…I hope like blue blazes…that I can complete the process page on topical parameterization in reasonably short order.  I have (however) been wrong, wrong, wrong, before.

In other news, I’m approaching completion on the table for my Jointer’s bench:

Bench Dog II

You’ll undoubtedly notice that one of the bench dogs is done, but the others have yet to be made and installed.  The tail vises1 are installed, along with their carriages, but the moving holes aren’t yet ready to go in.  I haven’t even started the shelf, planing stops, sliding deadmen, riser, or Moxon vise.  Plenty of work to go!

I spent the better part of a week final-fitting the legs, and another week applying tung oil.  A first coat of wax is (slowly, slowly) drying now.  I don’t really care about the appearance, I just wanted to be able to clean spills off the surface if I need to.

More to come.

Footnotes
  1. Yes, I know…they’re actually “wagon vises”.  Leave off, already![]
